Learning English Literature: A Tale of Two Cities Part 2: Chapter 1 to Chapter 3

Summary

Chapter 1: Five Years Later
                Mr. Jerry five years go was the one who had a message for Mr. Lorry. Now when he got up in the morning he found his wife praying and he thought that his wife was praying against him. Then he was angry and asked his wife to stop praying. During breakfast his wife asked for the praying again and he got very angry and said that the praying would steal his food. Later he went to work at the bank. 

Chapter 2: A Sight
                At the Old Bailey Court, a young man of 25 was brought in to be sentenced of the charge of treason.  His name was Mr. Darney, who was accused of being a traitor against the king. The bank asked  Jerry to go the court to be a messenger for Mr.  Lorry in case Mr. Lorry needed to sent some messages to the bank. Miss. Manette and her father also attended the hearing to be against the prisoner. The punishments for such a crime included hanging, chopping head, slicing the body into pieces, taking out the inside of the body and burn.

Chapter 3: A Disappointment
                At the court the accused is being tried for the charge of treason. The witnesses—Miss. Manette, Mr. Lorry, Doctor Manette, Mr. Basard who was the prisoner’s friend and Mr. Rorger Cly, who the accused's former servant—were asked to give testimony and at the end the court decided to acquit the charge of the accused. Mr. Lorry asked Mr. Jerry to send the court decision to the bank.
