Sample Personal Statement for Applying for Scholarship to New Zealand

My purpose of studying in New Zealand is to gain new knowledge, expertise and experience about educational leadership and policy making. In my view, my proposed study will be of great contribution to my workplace upon my return for many ways.

First of all, I want to use the knowledge I will have learned from New Zealand to improve English study program and the area of education at the Center for Foreign Languages, where I used to work before.

Secondly, the school program determines the quality of human resources the school produces, so it needs ongoing innovation. Thus, when I gain the knowledge about the leadership in education, I can help participate with my university director in upgrading the school program, policy, curriculum and the like.

Third, most of the lecturers of English at my university do not possess Master's degrees and this can result in students' low quality of education. Therefore, I need a Master's degree to actually help improve the quality of education of the students. Upon my arrival to my home country, I will share and transfer the knowledge and experience I gain in New Zealand to the Cambodian students of the next generation. As a teacher, I will use the knowledge learnt from the highly developed country to help students at the educational center I am overseeing through my teaching, workshops and other educational activities.

Finally, my knowledge can greatly benefit to human resource development at my workplace. I will help develop human resources at my school by doing more frequent workshops about professional development to all my staff in order to further strengthen their skill and better the work quality.

Overall, I think my study will be a useful and effective catalyst for the continued development of my career especially at my workplace.
